NBA players union executive director Michele Roberts met with commissioner Adam Silver on Sunday to “set a foundation” for offseason negotiations, with Roberts seemingly feeling positive about what awaits, as relayed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
“I think we’re going to get to a mutually acceptable result, but it’s going to take time,” Roberts told Charania in a wide-ranging interview. “We haven’t done our BRI (basketball-related income) audits. We haven’t set a salary cap, we haven’t set a tax.”
Roberts later added the league is “revenue challenged” in these rare times, but seemed to suggest any hiccups will be ironed out prior to the 2020-21 season.
“What we’re doing now is figuring out how to manage what is a short-term problem,” she told Charania. “We’re not going to make as much money. Money is not a dirty word; it’s the reality.
“So we need to figure out what we’re going to do about a season that is revenue-challenged. That’s what we’re addressing, and once the Finals end, then we’re going to have conversations in a very significant way. We’re just setting the table for that.”
