For the Toronto Raptors, “We the South” will remain the motto for the entire 2020-21 season. Or maybe it’s “We NOT the North.”
Either way, the Raptors will continue to play their home games at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., for the duration of the year, the team announced.
“Florida has been really welcoming to us and we’re so grateful for the hospitality we’ve found in Tampa and at Amalie – we’re living in a city of champions, and we intend to carry on the tradition of winning for our new friends and fans here,” Raptors president Masai Ujiri said. “But home is where the heart is, and our hearts are in Toronto. We think often of our fans, of our Scotiabank Arena family, and all those we are missing back home, and we can’t wait until we can all be together again.”
Tampa, of course, is still celebrating the Super Bowl win of the NFL’s Buccaneers and barely seems to know the Raptors are there. It probably doesn’t help that the Raptors are a very average 12-13, including 6-5 at “home.”
But Tampa is where the Raptors will remain, for this season, and maybe now they can focus on life on the court.
