The Detroit Pistons have hired Eastern Michigan coach Rob Murphy as president and general manager of their incoming G League franchise, as relayed by Keith Langlois of Pistons.com.
The Motor City Cruise are set to begin play next season. “Murphy and Pistons GM Troy Weaver share Syracuse roots,” Langlois noted, before adding that Murphy is “well-regarded and extraordinarily well-connected.”
Murphy had been the head coach at Eastern Michigan since 2011, before officially parting ways Wednesday. He has compiled a 166-155 record, but went 6-12 this season, 16-16 last and 15-17 the year before that. His best year came in 2017-18, when EMU finished 22-13.
