Free agent shooting guard Wayne Ellington has agreed to a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Ellington, 32, actually played 28 games for the Pistons in 2018-19, when he averaged a career-high 12.0 points. He spent last season with the New York Knicks, averaging 5.1 points in 16 minutes a night.
Along with the Ellington transaction, the Pistons waived center Dewayne Dedmon, per James Edwards III of The Athletic.
Dedmon was acquired last week in a trade last week that sent guards Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas to the Atlanta Hawks.
“Dedmon also had a $13.3MM salary for ’21/22 but it was only guaranteed for $1MM,” wrote Dana Gauruder of Hoops Rumors. “Detroit is expected to use the stretch provision to distribute the cap hit over five seasons. Dedmon would only count $2.9MM per season against the Pistons’ cap if his salary is stretched.”
Ellington is among the new faces on the Pistons added during the offseason. Others include forward Jerami Grant, center Jahlil Okafor, center Mason Plumlee and forwards Josh Jackson and Rodney McGruder.
