As suspected, the New Orleans Pelicans are having trade discussions centered around veteran guard Jrue Holiday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Also not surprising is that Holiday is being pursued by several contenders, as Charania also relayed.
Holiday, 30, is one of the league’s premier backcourt defenders and averaged 19.1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds this past season.
Previous rumors have linked Holiday to both the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets.
“Once (Kevin) Durant and (Kyrie) Irving take the court, the Nets could have a potent offense but problematic defense,” Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote. “They knew that even before hiring Steve Nash. The Post has detailed their interest in Holiday, and now ESPN has reported it dates since February’s trade deadline, when they held discussions with the Pelicans.”
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports recently reported as many as 10 teams have made calls to inquire about Holiday.
Holiday was a key member of a Pelicans alongside younger and more-celebrated youngsters such as Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram — so prying him away from Pelicans chief of basketball operations David Griffin may not be so easy.
