How great of a night was it for power forward Domantas Sabonis in the Indiana Pacers’ 134-128 overtime road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday?
Well, great enough to be utterly historic.
Sabonis finished with the LeBron James-esque line of 36 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists, becoming the first member of the Pacers to finish with at least 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a game since the franchise joined the NBA in 1976, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon (32 points, nine rebounds) and the Pacers overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force OT. And it was Sabonis’ two free throws with 11.1 seconds remaining in regulation that tied it.
Yet in the end, he spoke about defense.
“We got some key stops, and that helped our offense,” Sabonis told reporters after tallying his career-high in points.
The Pacers (15-14) are still missing injured wings T.J. Warren and Caris LeVert, but sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference anyway. Sabonis is among the major reasons why.
