Longtime NBA writer Michael Lee is leaving his position at The Athletic to return to The Washington Post as an enterprise reporter covering sports and society, as he relayed on social media.
Lee has widely been considered one of the most-respected writers on the NBA beat, beginning with his time covering the Atlanta Hawks for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and then the Washington Wizards with The Post. He has also provided NBA coverage for the Sporting News, SLAM and ESPN the Magazine, among several other television and radio outlets.
“We are thrilled to announce that Michael Lee is returning to The Washington Post as a member of the Sports enterprise team,” The Post said in a statement. “His coverage will focus on race, gender, diversity and the broader role sports play in shaping and reflecting our society.”
Lee has been with The Athletic since 2018. He will start his new role with The Post on Oct. 19.
