The Dallas Mavericks took the Los Angeles Clippers to seven games during their first-round matchup in the playoffs, but in order for the Mavs to take that next step, they’ll need to make some moves, which they’ll be expected to do.
“I don’t know at this time whether the majority of our moves will be through trade or will be through free agency, but I know we will be active,” Rick Carlisle said.
Luka Doncic is clearly their superstar that they’re going to build around for the future, but there has been much talk that Kristaps Porzingis is unhappy with his role. Perhaps he could be dealt in an effort to retool the Mavs roster.

- Pending free agent Tim Hardaway Jr. expressed that he wants to stay in Dallas long-term. Hardaway Jr. averaged 16.6 points per game this season, shooting nearly 40 percent from three.
- The Boston Celtics clearly need a shakeup to their roster, but don’t have many tradeable assets outside of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams to offer to bring in a player that can make a meaningful impact. They have a good chunk of Gordon Hayward‘s trade exception left to help them bring in a piece, but there are complications with that as well. Brian Robb of masslive.com breaks that down.

Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Mike D’Antoni has drawn interest for several head coaching vacancies, including the Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic, according to Jordan Schultz of ESPN. It wouldn’t be shocking to see D’Antoni want to go back to being a head coach after a year off from holding that responsibility.

ICYMI: Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura “essentially off the table” in trade talks this summer, per our own Chris Crouse. Washington is rumored to be in on Porzingis, but it seems like Hachimura, a promising young scorer at the forward position, will not be an option to be sent back to Dallas.
