The Walt Disney World Auxiliary Gymnasium Championship. That’s is how I’ve (only half) jokingly referred to this year’s Finals.
When you say it like that … then, yeah, this year’s title-winner probably deserves an asterisk. But that doesn’t make it a fact. It just makes an opinion, something to consider.
But what also should be considered is the fact that these are still NBA players, the best in the world, and it doesn’t matter where they play. A champion is a champion no matter from where the champion emerges, or if a season was disrupted (twice), and so on.
Twenty-two of the 30 teams got an opportunity to win it all. Only one will — the Lakers or Heat. But does that championship count as much as season’s past? You decide.
