The NBA intends to make the coach’s challenge a permanent fixture moving forward, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
In addition, the league is increasing the number of active players on each roster from 13 to 15, Charania added.
Last year marked the first year for the challenge, but it was considered a temporary/trial run. No it will be a regular part of the NBA.
Per Charania, the competition committee is also considering giving teams a second challenge if the first proves successful. Right now, coaches are given just one challenge, whether it ends up being right or wrong. Teams may also be able to get back a timeout after a successful challenge.
The NBA Board of Governors is meeting Dec. 17 to approve the changes.
