Point guard LaMelo Ball went through a private workout with the Minnesota Timberwolves in Southern California on Wednesday, according to Jonathon Givony of ESPN.
The Timberwolves own the No. 1 overall pick entering next Thursday’s NBA draft.
Ball had met with Timberwolves president Gerrson Rosas and coach Ryan Saunders, but that was days before the workout. He reportedly impressed the Timberwolves during both the meeting and the practice session, where he was said to have shot the ball well.
In a separate story, Givony indicated that most teams are operating under the assumption that Ball will be the first overall pick — either to the Timberwolves or another team that trades up to draft him.
Timberwolves executive VP Sachin Gupta recently made it clear the team is open to trading the pick and will listen to offers.
Ball is 6-foot-7 and spent last season playing professionally in Australia. He is the younger brother of Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans. LaMelo is viewed as a superior playmaker when compared to Lonzo.
