Darius Garland suffered a left eye injury in the Cavaliers’ season opener, forcing him to leave the game against the Raptors. Reports indicate that Garland suffered no structural damage to his eye and he’s expected to be re-evaluated over the coming days.

- Hawks owner Tony Ressler said there was “a lot of debate” about whether or not to trade for Dejounte Murray over the offseason. Atlanta, of course, traded three first-round picks and a pick swap in order to acquire him from the Spurs, though the franchise doesn’t believe it mortgaged the future. “After losing in the first round of the playoffs, we saw a lot of things we can do better, and we thought Dejounte would help us do many of those things,” Ressler told Lauren Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “And we do still have some picks for the future, so we can still draft young players for the future. We’re not out of that part of the business.”
- Joe Harris is set to make a return to the court on Friday night after playing in just 14 games last season. Harris underwent two ankle surgeries since he last suited up.
- Rumors of Donovan Mitchell landing in Miami were swirling during the offseason and Mitchell himself thought he would end up on the Heat, as he explained on J.J. Redick‘s Podcast. Mitchell would ultimately be dealt to the Cavaliers. The shooting guard scored 31 points on 57.1 percent shooting during his Cavaliers debut.
