Michigan coach Juwan Howard is a former NBA player and assistant coach. And now, he may be courted by the NBA to take the next step.
According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Howard is expected to receive some calls from the NBA after the season. Michigan is currently a No. 1 seed entering this weekend’s NCAA Tournament — and one of nine Big Ten teams to make the field.
“Many NBA executives feel Howard will be in high demand once again this offseason,” Givony wrote.
That’s not to say Howard will leave the school for which he once starred as a member of the Fab Five, along with Chris Webber and Jalen Rose.
Michigan has gone 39-16 in its two seasons under Howard, including a 20-4 mark this year. It also has what is widely considered the nation’s top recruiting class in the country coming in next season.
So prying away Howard won’t be easy for the NBA. But from the sounds of things, the NBA intends to try.
