Free agent guard De’Anthony Melton is returning to the Memphis Grizzlies on a four-year contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The deal will pay Melton $35 million, one of the best deals of free agency so far.
Melton only averaged 7.6 points but was perhaps the Grizzlies’ best perimeter defender last season. He was a restricted free agent.
“The Grizzlies held Early Bird rights on Melton and will be able to re-sign him using those rights, so the deal won’t affect the team’s mid-level exception, which remains available,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “Melton, meanwhile, will join Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke, and Dillon Brooks as the only Grizzlies players under contract beyond 2022.”
