Less than a month after taking over as Sacramento Kings general manager, Monte McNair announced he has made three additions to the front office.
The hires are Wes Wilcox as assistant GM, Phil Jabour as VP of player personnel and Paul Johnson as director of basketball operations. Johnson will also serve as GM of the Kings’ G League affiliate in Stockton.
Wilcox is a former GM of the Atlanta Hawks under Danny Ferry, and also worked as an assistant GM with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wilcox was also a reported finalist for the Kings job McNair eventually landed in September.
Meanwhile, Jabour previously served as Philadelphia 76ers scouting director, and Johnson as pro evaluation coordinator with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Johnson was named assistant GM of the G-League’s Oklahoma City Blue just two weeks ago — but has clearly received a promotion from that position in Sacramento.
“I am excited to have Wes, Phil and Paul join the front office,” McNair said in a statement. “Wes’ background as an executive in the league combined with Phil’s veteran leadership through the scouting ranks and Paul’s proven experience in evaluating talent will be strong additions to the basketball operations group. Their diverse skill sets and unique perspectives will add valuable knowledge and innovative thinking as we focus on executing our vision of building a winning culture in Sacramento.”
