If you want the Dallas Mavericks to make a trade, you’d better be prepared to knock their socks off.
At least, that appeared to be the message from Mavs owner Mark Cuban during an appearance on the Mavs Step Back Podcast.
“Unless it’s a game-changing star, I don’t see us doing anything at all,” Cuban said. “So, if someone decides they’re blowing it up, OK, we’ll talk to anybody about any great player. If it’s just ‘We’ll trade this guy for that guy’ and it’s not really going to move the needle, I’d rather go with continuity.”
The Mavericks in recent weeks have been rumored to be open to trading forward Kristaps Porzingis. But both Cuban and coach Rick Carlisle have said they’ve had no trade discussions surrounding Porzingis.
They have also been linked to center Andre Drummond, who is currently sitting on the sidelines as the Cleveland Cavaliers await a resolution. If the Mavs make a move for Drummond, expect it to be in the buyout market only.
So Cuban added that the only way the Mavs will trade ahead of the March 25 deadline is if an opposing team “makes a mistake” or floats a “great player” in a salary-dump.
