New faces, better results. For the second time in a week, the remade Orlando Magic picked up a big win on the road. This one came over the New Orleans Pelicans, 115-110, in overtime at the Smoothie King Center.
The Magic were led by Wendell Carter Jr. who scored 21 points off of the bench. He also grabbed 12 rebounds in 31 minutes. He is clearly making a strong case for a starting role. Terrence Ross spoke on Carter’s strong play since his arrival to the Magic following a trade with the Chicago Bulls.
“He’s a force inside,” Ross said of Carter. “That’s always good to have. He finishes around the basket really well. He sets screens really well, he has good hands.”
Ross had a strong game off of the bench with 19 points in 31 minutes of play. That included a couple of clutch jumpers in overtime.
The Magic were expected to throw away this season after trading Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier. But right now, they are getting the job done, having defeated the Los Angeles Clippers the other night.
These guys are showing some pride in what they do as professional basketball players.
The Magic look to continue in the winning column when they visit the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
