Free agent guard Frank Mason has agreed to a two-way contract with the Orlando Magic, as reported by Roy Parry of the Orlando Sentinel.
Mason, 26, is the reigning G League MVP, while playing for the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks’ affiliate. He even appeared in two playoff games with the Bucks last season.
Mason is 5-foot-11 and was originally drafted by the Sacramento Kings (34th overall) in 2017. He carries NBA career averages of 6.8 points and 2.6 assists in 99 games overall.
The Magic have been decimated by injuries lately, losing point guard Markelle Fultz for the season to a torn ACL. Also, backup point guard Michael Carter-Williams has been out with a sprained foot.
“Then Aaron Gordon, who the Magic had been using in a point forward role, was lost Sunday to a severe left ankle sprain and reportedly will miss four to six weeks,” Parry noted. “The absence of Fultz put more of the offensive workload on rookie Cole Anthony, and that will only stand to increase with Gordon out.”
Mason was already in Orlando, home of the G League bubble, with the Delaware Blue Coats. He had signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Philadelphia 76ers prior to the season.
Orlando will be represented by the Lakeland Magic in the bubble.
