The Houston Rockets currently have seven candidates for their coaching vacancy, and could still expand the pool, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
Among the candidates: Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue, current Rockets player development coach John Lucas and former Rockets coach and current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy, Feigen noted, echoing some earlier reports. Lue, of course, spent last season as the lead assistant with Doc Rivers (now coach of the Philadelphia 76ers) and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Along with those candidates, per Feigen, the Rockets met last week with Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr., Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas, Minnesota Timberwolves assistant David Vanterpool and former Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson.
Feigen reported that the Rockets have also already met with Lucas, with Lue’s interview lined up for Monday. Van Gundy is expected to be brought in soon, now that has broadcasting duties with ESPN and ABC have ended for the season, Feigen added.
