The Hornets have started the head coaching search as they look for a replacement for James Borrego and several candidates are on their shortlist.
Former Nets coach/Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, Bucks assistant Darvin Ham, Mavs assistant Sean Sweeney, and former Rockets/Suns/Knicks/Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni will all speak with Charlotte about the opening.
There have also been rumblings that Charlotte would be interested in Quin Synder if he and the Jazz part ways.
Latest on Kings, Lakers
In addition to the Hornets, the Lakers and Kings also have openings.
Marc Jackson is considered the frontrunner for Sacramento’s position, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Fischer writes that Jackson has the support of Vivek Ranadive, the organization’s majority stakeholder, as well as the Kings’ front office.
Jackson has been linked to the Lakers’ and Hornets’ openings as well with LeBron James and LaMelo Ball reportedly advocating for the former Warriors coach.
Nick Nurse Not Heading to Los Angeles
While the Lakers’ interest in Raptors coach Nick Nurse has been widely reported, team president Masai Ujiri told the media that he hasn’t been contacted about Nurse’s availability.
It appears Nurse will stay put in Toronto and the Lakers will continue to dream.
