It seems as if those around the NBA believe Dallas Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis is available ahead of the March 25 trade deadline, as relayed by ESPN’s Tim McMahon.
Porzingis is in the second season of a five-year, $158 million contract. He is averaging 20.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 21 games.
Both Mavs owner Mark Cuban and coach Rick Carlisle have said publicly stated that the team has not engaged in any trade talks involving Porzingis. But per McMahon’s sources, that clearly could change.
So far, Porzingis hasn’t been linked to any opposing teams. One opposing league executive recently told FortyEightMiunutes he finds it “highly doubtful” that Dallas would in fact trade Porzingis.
“There’s a difference between listening to offers and making him available,” the exec said. “They might listen (on Porzingis).”
Porzingis told reporters he is still finding his way with the Mavericks after a series of injuries.
“I feel like I’m getting there,” Porzingis said. “I still have to keep working. After you get the surgery, the leg is not feeling the same, so you have to keep working on that strength and make sure it’s strong and stable and you feel confident at the end.
“It’s nonstop work, but I’m feeling better each day and each game, and I’m putting in the work. That just gives me the confidence that I can go out there and play and play freely. I’m looking forward to the second part of the season.”
