The Knicks are waiving forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the former No. 2 overall draft pick, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Kidd-Gilchrist, 27, was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the second overall pick in 2012. He averaged a career-high 12.7 points in 2015-16, but a lack of an outside shot has limited his value.
The Hornets ended up waiving him in February, and he signed with the Mavericks a short time later. He appeared in just 13 games with the Mavericks, averaging less than 1 point a night.
He was likely a victim of a numbers game in a crowded Knicks frontcourt, that also features Julius Randle, as well as Kevin Knox and rookie Obi Toppin.
