The Knicks are banning media from their two preseason home games against the Cavaliers later this week, as relayed by Marc Berman of the New York Post.
“We continue to make health and safety our top priority,” the Knicks said in a release. “Given the rise in COVID-19 cases, media will not be permitted in arena for pre-season games.’’
The NBA gave teams the option on whether to allow media to home games. The Cavs did allow a limited number of credentialed media to attend their preseason home games against the Pacers. So did the Pistons, who hosted the Knicks for the first two preseason games.
Regular traveling media members will not attend most road games this season.
The Knicks did not indicate whether media will be permitted inside Madison Square Garden for home games.

- Mitchell Robinson and newcomer Nerlens Noel appear to be battling for the starting center spot, and Ian Begley of SNY.tv discussed the pros and cons of both.
- First-round pick Immanuel Quickley‘s ability to make perimeter shots could earn him some regular minutes, per Berman. “I like him,’’ Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters. “He’s not afraid of competing. We didn’t see him shoot the ball. He’s a knockdown shooter. We like to see more of those. We see him do it in practice all the time. When he raises up to shoot, you think it’s going in.’’
- Knicks lottery pick Obi Toppin followed a strong showing in his first preseason game with a 1-of-9 performance in the second game against the Pistons. Toppin otherwise again played well, just couldn’t get the shots to drop.
