The Knicks and Julius Randle are expected to discuss a contract extension for the power forward after his All-Star season, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Randle, 26, is guaranteed $4 million of his $19.8 million just salary next season, a small fraction of what he may receive on the open market.
But given the type of year he’s having under first-year coach Tom Thibodeau, and the type of year the Knicks are having, it’s highly likely both sides will want to remain together.
Randle is averaging 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists through 65 games. He also leads the league in minutes at 37.3 per game and is coming off the first All-Star appearance of his career.
With six games regular-season games to go, Randle and the Knicks sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They would face the Hawks in the first round if the playoffs were to begin today.
