The New York Knicks intend to sign veteran center/forward John Henson to a 10-day contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Henson hasn’t played since last season, when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons (along with point guard Brandon Knight) as part of the Andre Drummond deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Interestingly, the Knicks were among the teams said to have a strong interest in Drummond at last month’s trade deadline. Drummond instead agreed to a contract buyout with the Cavs, and Henson was not re-signed by the Pistons. So no one from the 2020 trade remains with the team that acquired him.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have been looking to fill the void in the middle after losing center Mitchell Robinson to a broken foot.
Henson, 30, is 6-foot-9 and averaged 6.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 11 appearances with the Pistons in 2019-20. He appeared in 29 games with the Cavs before the trade.
