Former New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry is joining Luke Walton and the Sacramento Kings, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.
Gentry will serve as the Kings’ associate head coach. He was also being courted by the Philadelphia 76ers for an the same with new coach Doc Rivers, but Gentry opted for the Kings.
Walton and Gentry, of course, worked together as assistants with the Golden State Warriors under Steve Kerr.
Gentry was fired by the Pelicans in August after an uneven showing during the league’s restart on the Disney campus. The Pelicans failed to make the playoffs for the fourth time in Gentry’s five seasons with the franchise.
He has also served as head coach of the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons.
