The Atlanta Hawks won a close one behind the heroics of their Rookie Forward, AJ Griffin. The Hawks were locked up in a tight one in overtime. With 0.5 seconds left, AJ Griffin got a great pass and hit the game-winning six-footer to stun the Bulls. The Hawks won the contest, 123-122. Griffin ended up with 17 points on a 7-for-17 shooting from the field. He hit 2-for-11 from behind the three-point line. Griffin also grabbed two rebounds and dished out two assists on the night. Griffin spoke postgame on the game-winner and his growing confidence as the season progresses.
“The same thing was going through my head,” Griffin said after scoring 17 points. “Just how fast it happens. I think coach drew up a great play and J.J. made a great pass.”
“Getting that confidence from the coach to go out there and execute. Even on a day when shots aren’t falling, to continue to keep playing. Just the encouragement to keep going. On to the next one.”
The Hawks’ leader Trae Young has been struggling as of late. He bounced back late in the game against the Bulls with 19 points. Young scored those 19 on 5-for-18 shooting from the field. Young knocked down 2-for-8 from behind the three-point line. Young also grabbed two rebounds and dished out 14 assists.
