Guard Gary Payton II suffered a fractured elbow in the Warriors’ 106-101 loss to the Grizzlies in Game 2 of their second-round series and will undergo an MRI on Wednesday to confirm the ailment. Payton was injured on a flagrant foul by Dillon Brooks just minutes into the game.
More Injury & Availability Notes
- Kyle Lowry will remain sidelined for Game 2 of Miami’s conference semi-finals series against Philadelphia due to a hamstring injury, the team announced Tuesday. The veteran point guard suffered the hamstring injury in Game 3 of the opening round vs. the Hawks and is now set to miss his fourth consecutive game.
- Miami’s P.J. Tucker (right calf strain), Sixth Man of the Year Tyler Herro (left ankle sprain), Caleb Martin (left ankle sprain), Max Strus (right hamstring strain), and Gabe Vincent (right knee irritation) are all listed as questionable for Wednesday’s Game 2 against the 76ers. The expectation is for all of them to play with Herro coming off the bench and Vincent taking the place of an injured Lowry.
- Joel Embiid, who was initially ruled out indefinitely due to a concussion and orbital fracture, is improving, but head coach Doc Rivers still has yet to provide any specific timetable for his return. “I know he did something yesterday, but not much, and I know he’s feeling a lot better,” Rivers said. “I don’t want to give false hope, either. So I’ll just stop there.”
- Celtics newly named Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, missed Tuesday’s Game 2 vs. the Bucks due to a thigh contusion. Boston still held the defending champs to 86 points in a win to tie the series 1-1 and won’t play Game 3 until Saturday, as the series shifts to Milwaukee, giving Smart an outside chance to return.
- Mavericks Maxi Kleber who dropped five threes in the first half and a total of 19 points in a Game 1 loss to the Suns did have a scary fall injuring his neck and back but he “should be fine” ahead of Wednesday’s Game 2 in Phoenix.
