The Charlotte Hornets are waiving guard/forward Nicolas Batum, per reports.
According to the Charlotte Observer, the Hornets will waive and stretch the $27.1 million that Batum was due to make this season. He picked up his contract option earlier this month.
Batum, 31, appeared in just 22 games last season and averaged 3.6 points. He was sidelined early in the year with a fractured finger.
The Hornets recently agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract with small forward Gordon Hayward. There has been reports they may be open to a sing-and-trade with the Boston Celtics, Hayward’s former team.
Batum will become an unrestricted free agent 48 hours after being waived, assuming no one claims him.
Training camp tips off Tuesday.
