Free agent forward Gordon Hayward agreed to a four-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Hayward opted out of the final year of his contract with the Boston Celtics last week. It was to pay him $34.2 million.
Instead, Hayward will earn $120 million over four years with the Hornets. The deal is fully guaranteed, per David Aldridge of The Athletic.
“Hayward was said to prefer joining his hometown Pacers, and Boston and Indiana attempted to work out a sign-and-trade deal within the last couple days,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “However, the Pacers’ cap situation complicated matters, as Bobby Marks of ESPN notes (via Twitter), and it was always going to be a challenge for the C’s and Pacers to agree on fair compensation.
