The Boston Celtics have continued to make some key roster moves late in free agency with the addition of Dennis Schroder and now keeping Marcus Smart around for the long haul.
Smart was drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and has been a Celtics his entire career. Smart was part of the 2014-15 all-rookie team and is a two-time all-defensive team member through his seven-year career.
Locking Smart up for the long haul was a smart decision by Boston and quite frankly not a surprise. After the Celtics traded away Kemba Walker this offseason, it opened up a gaping hole at the point guard position with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown playing shooting guard and small forward respectively.
There’s the belief that Smart is “slated to become the starting point guard for the Celtics this upcoming season,” per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Boston is paying big money to a player that could see a big-time role for years to come…
