The Timberwolves will be without D’Angelo Russell for quite some time. The point guard will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, and his expected recovery is 4-to-6 weeks.
Depending on his actual recovery timeline, there’s a chance Russell doesn’t play again this year. Minnesota has the worst record in the league and if their pick falls outside the top-3 then the Warriors receive the selection (via the D’Lo trade).
Ricky Rubio, who was dealt back to the Timberwolves during the offseason, will take over as the starting point guard.
Karl-Anthony Towns, like Russell, has missed extended time since the point guard was traded to Minnesota. The pair has only appeared in five games together since the trade at least season’s deadline.
