As expected, the Los Angeles Clippers are signing veteran center DeMarcus Cousins for the remainder of the season, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Cousins, 30, has appeared in eight games with the Clippers and is averaging 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds since arriving in LA. His second 10-day contract with the team expired Sunday night.
Teams either have to sign a player for the remainder of the season or let him go after the expiration of his second 10-day deal. The Clippers (43-19), currently third in the Western Conference, clearly chose the latter with Cousins.
“Once (Cousins) learns the plays and sets, understands what we’re trying to do defensively, getting in a little better shape, I think he definitely can (help),” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters..
“We have a month left before the playoffs start, and for him to get a month of just understanding what we’re trying to run, what we’re doing, I think it’ll make us so much better.”
