The Boston Celtics have emerged as the frontrunners to trade for Aaron Gordon, according to Matt Moore of The Action Network.
Moore adds that no deal is close, however, and the Orlando Magic are likely to wait until Thursday’s deadline to finalize any potential deal.
Moore also reports that the Magic are seeking Marcus Smart, but given how much Smart means to the Bostin fanbase, it’ll be hard to imagine the Celtics giving him up. At this point, they’d probably prefer to give up first-round picks instead.
The 6-foot-8 forward would give the Celtics a much-needed forward that can stretch the floor, provide great playmaking and help them play a faster style of basketball.
Pairing him with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown would also give opposing defenses headaches, as all three of them can shoot or put the ball on the deck and drive to the rim.
On defense, all three guys are more than capable of holding their own, as they can use their length and lateral quickness to stay with their man and make their life difficult.
The Houston Rockets are also reportedly interested in the athletic forward, as our own Chris Crouse touched up on earlier. However, Gordon made it known that he’s not interested in going to a rebuilding situation.
