The Knicks officially acquired Evan Fournier and two future second-round picks in a sign-and-trade deal with the Celtics, as they sent Boston cash considerations, according to the team.
Boston is receiving a $17.1 million trade exception as a result of sign-and-trade, as Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe notes.
When it comes to the trade deadline, trade exceptions can have a ton of value, as it could either help bring in a vet that can help you win now, or bring on a less desirable contract in order to acquire future draft picks. The Celtics boast an impressive roster, but perhaps they could use another backup wing to play behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
More on the Celtics
- There’s been talk that Isaiah Thomas could reunite with the Celtics this offseason, and during a segment on ESPN’s Jalen & Jacoby show, Thomas acknowledged the possibility. “There’s a little talk about that,” Thomas said when asked about a potential return to Boston. “I think the world wants that to happen because it only makes sense. If the opportunity presents itself, I know I can help that team. Especially the young guys; Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. I know I can help.”
- Juhann Begarin wasn’t initially invited to play in the Summer League, as Brad Stevens told him that he will play in France for another year, Jay King of The Athletic relays. However, after Begarin’s request, he was invited to play in the Summer League and did not disappoint, posting well-rounded averages of 5.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in his first three games. Despite his good performance, it’s still unlikely he plays for Boston next season unless they make some changes to their roster.
