The Sixers and Celtics have discussed about a potential trade centered around Ben Simmons, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports.
However, there is “no traction” as of yet, Charania cautions. It’s expected that the Sixers would require Jaylen Brown to be part of any trade deal for Simmons.
Although Philadelphia has gotten off to an 8-2 start, the team will always do their due diligence to find trades that will make them better. While a Simmons trade may not be imminent, it seems inevitable. The All-Star remains out indefinitely after telling the team that he is mentally not ready to play.
Sixers Continue to Fine Simmons
The team resumed fining Simmons last week over his lack of cooperation in discussing the mental health issues. Charania notes that Simmons provided the team with names of mental health professionals he’s consulting but the organization has no further information on his condition.
“Philadelphia does not have a mental health doctor on its staff with whom Simmons is comfortable,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Monday.
If the team can somehow land a talent like Jaylen Brown, it may be more of a win for the Sixers than the Celtics as Brown is not only the same age as Simmons but a better offensive threat on a cheaper deal as well.
For what it’s worth, Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald deemed the Brown-Simmons swap talks of any talks as “untrue.”
