Free agent forward/center Thon Maker has agreed to a contract with the Cavaliers ahead of training camp, as first relayed by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Maker is a 7-footer who has mostly failed to live up to expectations after being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks with the No. 10 0verall pick in 2016.
He appeared in 60 games with the Detroit Pistons last season, compiling averages of 4.7 points and 48 percent shooting. New Pistons general manager Troy Weaver decided not to extend a qualifier offer to Maker, allowing Maker to become an unrestricted free agent.
Maker can alter shots, but was inconsistent both as a perimeter shooter and defensively last season.
Training camp starts Tuesday, with the Cavs’ first preseason game scheduled for Dec. 12 vs. the Indiana Pacers at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The regular season is scheduled to begin Dec. 22.
Maker is an Australian and South Sudanese citizen. His father stands 6-8 and his mother is 6-3.
