The Cavaliers are looking for a wing who can join the rotation immediately and former Michigan State star Denzel Valentine is among the player on their radar, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.
The team had conversations with the Hawks about Cam Reddish as well, though it’s unclear how far those talks have gotten. It sounds like Cleveland is unwilling to give up major assets as they look to add a wing to their rotation with Fedor noting that the team isn’t entertaining sending out a future first-round pick.
Cleveland is also looking for another point guard and a backup center, though the addition on the wing is more pressing.
More on the Cleveland Cavaliers
- The Cavaliers were among the teams at Isaiah Hartenstein‘s private workout in Las Vegas and they remain open to a reunion. The Thunder, Clippers, and Nets were also in attendance. Fedor (same piece) notes that if Hartenstein returns, he could take Mfiondu Kabengele‘s roster spot.
- The Hornets are unlikely to trade Gordon Hayward, though Greg Patuto of NBAAnalysis.net examined what it may take for the Cavaliers to trade for the former Celtic. Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman, Larry Nance Jr., and a second-round pick would be a reasonable package for the wing and while on paper that would give Charlotte good value, the Hornets are trying to get to the postseason and Hayward is too valuable to that quest to take a package like this.
