Leading up to the NBA draft, Collin Sexton was seen as long gone. However, with the Cavaliers unable to find a deal for the combo guard, it appears that he’s going to remain in town…possibly long-term.
Evan Dammarell of Fear The Sword hears that the franchise is considering an extension for Sexton, who is eligible to sign one this summer. The former No. 8 overall pick has enjoyed his time in Cleveland and would like to remain with the organization long-term.
It’s unclear what signing Sexton to an extension will cost the Cavaliers. There were rumors that rival clubs were hesitant to trade for the 22-year-old because of his potentially lucrative forthcoming contract.
Sexton just had his best season from a statistical standpoint this past season. The Alabama product scored 24.3 points per game while making 47.5 percent of his shots from the field.
If Sexton signs a long-term deal with the Cavaliers, trade rumblings surrounding Darius Garland could pick up. And while the No. 4 overall pick remains in the Cavaliers’ long-term plans, he isn’t untouchable in the right deal.
