The Milwaukee Bucks have been without a traditional backup point guard since trading D.J. Augustin to the Houston Rockets on March 19, so bringing in Jeff Teague makes sense.
Teague, 32, was available after being traded by the Boston Celtics to the Orlando Magic, then waived by the Magic.
He appeared in 34 games with the Celtics, making five starts, and averaging 6.9 points and 2.1 assists. His primary role, of course, will be backing up Jrue Holiday.
Teague, of course, was the starting point guard for Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer when Budenholzer, Teague and the Atlanta Hawks finished with the best record in Eastern Conference back in 2014-15.
The Bucks (29-17) sit in third in the Eastern Conference, and are coming off loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. It was a game in which Holiday said, “I was terrible,” after raising his hand to speak to reporters.
“I definitely gotta do better,” Holiday said. “I think Kawhi (Leonard) got some big ones, especially toward the end where you get rebounds like that it’s just a momentum shift. You’re guarding for 23 seconds on the shot clock and they get extra shots, it’s definitely deflating. As a team and me personally, I definitely have to do better.”
So with Teague in the fold, and the Bucks adding in small forward P.J. Tucker, there may be an adjustment period. But Holiday is far from actually terrible and Teague will give him a veteran backup who has been in some playoff wars.
