The Trail Blazers may not have a head coaching vacancy for much longer.
Portland is “locked in” on Clippers assistant coach Chauncey Billups to be the organization’s next head coach, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. The franchise hopes to come to terms with the former Pistons point guard quickly.
Spurs assistant Becky Hammon and Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni were the other finalists for the job. The Blazers parted ways with Terry Stotts earlier in the offseason.
Billups, who interviewed with the Celtics before they came to terms with Ime Udoku, has been endorsed by Damian Lillard for the role.
