Central Notes: Pistons, Martin, Cavs, Bulls, Bucks

Despite all the losses, the Pistons are pleased with the way their four rookies have developed this season, as relayed by Keith Langlois of Pistons.com.

The “Core Fore” of Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Saben Lee have all shown individual growth throughout the year, and especially lately.

If you win with toughness in this league, we’d have won quite a few games,” coach Dwane Casey said. “Those guys toughed it out – mentally, physically – and it says a lot about their character, who they are as people.”

More from the Central

  • Former Butler star Kelan Martin has made a case for more playing time with the Pacers after a 25-point outburst vs. the Cavaliers, per J. Michael of the Indianapolis Star.

  • I’ve been writing a lot about the Pacers lately. They don’t get much love from the national media, but they’ve become a fairly intriguing story lately. You can check out my coverage on the Pacers team page at FortyEightMinutes.

  • Along with that, I’ve been dribbling a lot lately on the Cavaliers. You can check out the latest here (postgame) and here (big picture). Also, I talked Cavs on 92.3 The Fan on Tuesday as a follow-up to those dribbles, offering more thoughts on Kevin Love, Isaac Okoro and the rest. You can listen to my spot here.

  • The Bulls are still alive for a play-in game spot. Rob Schaefer of NBC Sports Chicago broke down the scenarios, writing that the Bulls will either need to go 4-0 or 3-1 to get in.

  • Meanwhile, the Bucks are currently jockeying with the Nets for third in the East, but a 146-125 loss to the Spurs on Monday didn’t help. “We got to find a way to get stops,” coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Just be better overall defensively. Be more efficient. It’s in us. So I think we got to go out and execute on both ends.”
