Former NBA point guard Jameer Nelson has been hired as a scout by the Philadelphia 76ers, according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Nelson, 38, will also serve as assistant GM of the G-League’s Delaware Blue Coats.
A native of Chester, Pa., Nelson played his college all at St. Joe’s, sharing the backcourt with former NBA guard Delonte West. The Hawks finished 27-0 in the 2003-04 regular season.
The Denver Nuggets selected Nelson with the 20th overall pick in the 2004 draft, then quickly traded him to the Orlando Magic, who had drafted Dwight Howard with the No. 1 pick that year. Howard, Nelson and the Magic reached the Finals in 2009.
Nelson also spent time with the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans and Detroit Pistons before retiring in 2018.
The 76ers are entering their first season under new coach Doc Rivers after being swept by the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
