Jeff Van Gundy could bring on former New York Knicks coach Mike Miller should Van Gundy land the Houston Rockets coaching job, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.
Van Gundy is said to be one of three finalists for the Rockets vacancy, joining Rockets player development coach John Lucas and Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas.
Miller recorded a 17-27 record with the Knicks after taking over for David Fizdale. Miller is not expected to be retained under Tom Thibodeau, hired as new coach of the Knicks in the spring.
“Van Gundy has spoken very highly of Miller and thought he deserved to remain as Knicks head coach after he did well taking over for David Fizdale in December,” Berman wrote.
Van Gundy, 58, has been serving as an in-game analyst for ESPN and ABC broadcasts of NBA games since 2007. He coached the Rockets from 2003-07 and the Knicks before that (1996-2001). He most recently coached the U.S. men’s basketball team to the gold medal at the 2017 FIBA World Cup.
