Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban denied a report that the team is open to trading forward Kristaps Porzingis, telling Tim Cato of The Athletic that the Mavs have “not discussed (Porzingis) with anyone.”
Cuban’s comments followed a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, who wrote that the Mavs are open to moving Porzingis in an effort to improve defensively.
“They’ve kicked the tires on everybody on their roster that’s not named Luka (Doncic),” a person with knowledge of the situation told Fischer. “You know (president of basketball operations) Donnie (Nelson); they’re always tinkering.”
Along with that, veteran insider Ian Begley of SNY.tv cited sources as saying that the Mavs had reached out to the Golden State Warriors to gauge their interest in Porzingis.
Most around the league seem to believe the Mavericks will hold on to Porzingis and instead try to add a center with “physicality, rebounding, (and) toughness,” Fischer wrote.
With those things in mind, the Mavs may have an interest in available Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond — who’s been benched as the Cavs seek a trade. Drummond is also considered a candidate for contract buyout.
