Lonzo Ball‘s name has been making the rounds in trade rumors, as FortyEightMinutes relayed recently, and the New Orleans Pelicans point guard is said to be drawing interest from the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and yes, Golden State Warriors.
“There have also been rumors about Kelly Oubre–Lonzo Ball trade. I mean that’s no secret, that’s sort of been out there,” ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast, via HoopsHype. “The Pelicans have struggled, especially defensively. (…) They’ve shopped their guards. They’ve shopped Eric Bledsoe, Ball and J.J. Redick.”
Oubre has indeed been mentioned in trade rumors, as the small forward seems to be proving as a poor fit alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and the rest of the Warriors. That said, it is early and Warriors coach Steve Kerr recently said he has spoken to Oubre about the trade rumors.
“I talked to him about” the reports, Kerr told reporters. “It’s unfortunate. A team (New Orleans) called us and asked us, didn’t even make us an offer, just asked about Kelly. Next thing we know, it’s online. This is sort of modern NBA, modern life.”
As for Ball, Windhorst said to keep an eye out, adding to the speculation that moves are on the way for the disappointing Pelicans.
“One of the places that, in addition to Golden State that you could think of Lonzo, one of the places that you would think of Lonzo as a possibility and I’ve heard out there would be Chicago,” Windhorst said. “If Chicago might have an interest there… But we’ll see about that.”
