The Magic are unlikely to re-sign Evan Fournier when the shooting guard becomes a free agent at the end of the season, per Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Orlando’s long-term cap sheet became even more clogged with recent lucrative extensions for Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac and re-signing Fournier, who turned 28 prior to the season, would impede their future flexibility.
If the franchise isn’t in the playoff race near the March 25 trade deadline, Robbins envisions the club sniffing around the league for a trade.
Fournier is averaging 17.9 points and a career-high 3.6 assists per game through his first 11 contests. Though, the French-native’s minutes (28.4) are his lowest since his second season in the NBA back during the 2013-14 campaign.
More NBA Rumors
- Coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters that getting Kira Lewis more time is a priority for the Pelicans, confirming last week’s rumors. SVG added that it’s tough when there are so many guards on the roster. J.J. Redick, Lonzo Ball, and Eric Bledsoe have all heard their names in trade rumors recently.
- Ricky Rubio, who returned to the Timberwolves via trade this offseason, could be traded again before the deadline, Chris Hine of The Star Tribune contends. The point guard is sporting a career-low 9.6 player efficiency rating, struggling to be effective as an off the bench threat for most of the season.
- Scott Brooks recently told reporters that the Wizards were not interested in trading Bradley Beal, as we recently relayed. “I’m gonna just tell (general manager Tommy Sheppard) you might as well block all the 29 other teams’ numbers. We’re not answering,” Brooks said.
