In what is probably a surprise to no one, new Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan is overhauling his staff of assistants, announcing the changes on Monday.
Roy Rogers, Dean Cooper, Nate Loenser and Karen Stack Umlauf were all assistants under former coach Jim Boylen but are being let go.
“I appreciate the time that I was able to spend with Dean, Nate, Roy and Karen. I really want to thank all of them for their service and commitment to the Chicago Bulls,” Donovan said in a statement. “This is the tough side to our business, and I wish all of them the best moving forward.”
Chris Fleming, another assistant under Boylen, was not an announced change and seems likely to remain with the Bulls, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. Fleming previously worked with Bulls chief of basketball operations Artusas Karnisovas with the Denver Nuggets, so there is a familiarity there.
Meanwhile, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times speculated that former NBA point guard and longtime coach Maurice Cheeks may be a candidate to join Donovan with the Bulls.
