NBA officials will meet with the Board of Governors via conference call Tuesday to discuss potential changes to the league’s health and safety protocols, relays Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
General managers already met with the league on Tuesday, Wojnarowski noted.
Jason Dumas of KRON4-TV reported that the league has considered has considered the possibility of pausing the season for up to two weeks in light of the recent flood of positive COVID-19 test results.
That contradicts a statement from the league over the weekend that there won’t be a stoppage.
“We anticipated that there would be game postponements this season and planned the schedule accordingly,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass told Wojnarowski in a statement. “There are no plans to pause the season, and we will continue to be guided by our medical experts and health and safety protocols.”
Per Wojnarowski, the league’s call with GMs centered on potentially “tightening” some of the health and safety protocols. That included:
- Re-examining shootarounds and length of practices
- Limiting pre-and-post game socializing on the court
- As well as stricter restrictions on restaurant dining and “tighter rules on mask-wearing.”
Along with those possibilities, the NBA may consider adding two two-way roster spots to every roster, giving each team more available players. Currently, teams are allowed to carry a couple of two-way players.
