The Knicks intend to waive forward/center Omari Spellman to sign free agent power forward Taj Gibson, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv.
While the moves have not been made yet, “it’s likely to happen,” Begley reported.
Gibson, 35, is familiar with Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, as the two were together both with the Bulls and Timberwolves.
Gibson actually spent last season with the Knicks, appearing in 62 games and averaging 6.1 points and 4.3 rebounds. Along with the Knicks, Bulls and Timberwolves, he has spent the 2016-17 season with the Thunder.
Spellman, 23, was traded to the Knicks from the Timberwolves in November for Ed Davis. Spellman appeared in 49 games for the Warriors last season, averaging 7.6 points, but has not been part of the Knicks’ regular rotation.
